The bac in Senegal is organised by the Office du Baccalauréat, based at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar (UCAD) and placed under the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. There are two separate exams, the general bac and the technical bac, with different calendars: in 2026, the technical bac started on Monday 15 June and the general bac on Tuesday 30 June. Here are the tracks, the first-group and second-group papers, registration, what is known about the 2027 session, results and what comes next.

Senegal's Office du Baccalauréat

The Office organises the exam, publishes papers and answer keys after the exams, announces results and issues documents. Its address: Université Cheikh Anta Diop, BP 5005 Dakar-Fann. Its official website (officedubac.sn) publishes registration, calendar, papers, answer keys, syllabuses and results; its digital services go through extrantsbac.ucad.sn:

  • bac results sent by SMS;
  • online results check;
  • request for a duplicate diploma and transcript;
  • check whether the diploma is available and request for it to be issued;
  • authentication of diploma and transcript;
  • correction of personal data on documents.

For questions, the Office answers at support.offbac@ucad.edu.sn and on 33 824 19 29.

The general bac tracks in Senegal

The tracks can be read from the papers the Office published for the 2026 session. There are two main families, literary (L) and scientific (S), with tracks where Arabic plays a central role.

TrackWhat the 2026 papers show
LPhilosophy, French, history and geography, foreign languages, and a maths paper specific to L tracks
L2The literary papers, plus physics, life and earth sciences (SVT) and economics
LA, L-ARArabic language and literature; civilisation in LA, Islamic studies in L-AR
S1, S2Maths, physics, SVT, philosophy, French, English
S3Physics (paper shared with S1) and science papers
S4, S5Specialist papers; in S5, processing and preservation technology
S1A, S2AScience tracks with Arabic language and literature; civilisation in S1A

The Office does not publish a table of coefficients by track online. Your school gives them to you: ask for them from the year before the final year, they should guide how you share your revision time.

Before choosing your track, open that track's bac papers on the Office's website: you will see what will be expected of you at the end of the final year, subject by subject. Talk to your teachers about it, and ask final-year pupils in that track what they think: on Compatri, class groups let you ask them directly, in your city and elsewhere.

For languages, the 2026 papers cover English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian, Russian and Greek, as well as Latin.

The technical bac

The technical bac has its own calendar, which starts earlier than the general bac. The Office publishes its results separately, by academy and by school. Technical tracks are not detailed on the Office's website: your technical school presents them with their practical papers.

First group and second group

The general bac happens in two stages:

1the first group: all the written papers of your track;
2the second group: depending on your first-group results, you may be called to a new set of papers (maths, philosophy, French, sciences, history and geography, languages depending on your track) which gives you a second chance to pass.

Do not ease off after the first group: the second group needs preparation. The Office has published the 2026 second-group papers: practise on them too.

For the 2026 session, registration opened on 10 November: keep an eye on the Office's website and your school from now on: a rejected file must be corrected before the deadline, and the Office publishes the list of rejection reasons with its registration notice. To organise your preparation, our method for revising for the bac with past papers offers a schedule for the last months.

Results and diplomas

The Office publishes provisional results by academy and by school, then the results after the second group. The SMS service and online check go through extrantsbac.ucad.sn. Diplomas are then issued on a region-by-region schedule: for 2026, the Office published the one for the Dakar region. Trust no list circulating on social media before the official publication.

Mistakes that cost a lot

  • An uncorrected error in your personal details. Your surname, first names and date of birth will appear on your diploma. Check them at registration; afterwards, you have to go through the Office's correction service.
  • An incomplete registration file. The Office publishes the list of rejection reasons: read it before you submit.
  • Neglecting a subject because it "counts for little". Without your track's exact coefficients, you do not know what it really weighs.
  • Waiting for results to think about what comes next. Procedures for studying abroad and most scholarships happen during the final year.
  • Believing in fake papers and fake results. Only the Office's website and its digital services are authoritative.

Revise with the Office's papers

Senegal has an advantage many countries lack: the Office publishes the general bac's papers and answer keys, with an archive from 2020 to 2026, and the final-year L and S syllabuses as PDFs (English, French, geography, history, maths, philosophy, physics, SVT). For 2026, answer keys exist for the L, LA, LAR, S1, S2, S2A and S3 tracks; for philosophy, the Office gives an outline rather than a full answer.

On Compatri, the exam paper archive (in French) adds tests, term exams and mock bacs uploaded by pupils. It is being built and is still sparse: each paper you upload after the exam helps a pupil of your track in another city. On the Study page, join your class's group ("Terminale S2, Thiès", "Terminale L, Saint-Louis") to ask questions and find the same track in Dakar, Kaolack or Ziguinchor.

After the bac: stay or leave

With your bac, you can carry on in Senegal or go abroad to study. Our article stay or leave after the bac helps you weigh both.

If you are aiming for France, the Campus France procedure starts during the final year, months before the bac. Read our Campus France Senegal guide and the Campus France Senegal 2027 calendar, then test your file with the Campus France simulator (in French), free and anonymous. Our article on recognition of an African bac abroad explains how your diploma is recognised elsewhere.

To fund your studies, the directory lists scholarships open to Senegalese students (in French), checked on official websites, with alerts before each deadline. Once you leave, the Senegalese diaspora is waiting in your future city, and Senegalese students in France already meet up there.
