How to explore the communities
A community doesn't live in an abstract country, but in cities. On Compatri, it crosses a country of origin with a city of residence, for example Cameroonians in Brussels.
First, pick a continent. You then see the countries of origin it covers, and finally the communities already meeting in their cities.
Each community brings together verified members, their meetups and their groups. You join it for free, and you can also propose a meetup yourself.
Sourced figures, with their limits
When a page gives the number of people living outside their country, the figure comes from the UN (DESA, International Migrant Stock 2024), with its source.
That figure counts people born in one country and living in another. Their children born locally are therefore not included.
A page only opens to search engines if it adds something: an active community, several budding communities, or at least 50,000 people counted by the UN.
Start from your city instead of your country
Rather search by where you live? The cities page lists communities and events city by city. The national days calendar also shows when and where each country is celebrated far from home.
