Key point. The official Campus France list, updated on 28 September 2026, does not include Uganda among the countries under the Études en France procedure. There is therefore no Études en France platform, no Campus France application fee and no mandatory interview in Uganda. Campus France does, however, have an office in Kampala, useful for information. To study in France from Uganda, the route depends on the level you aim for: the French embassy for a first-year bachelor's, the Mon Master platform for a master's, direct applications for the rest, then a visa from the competent consulate.

How to apply to France from Uganda

Campus France sums up the possible routes for a student residing in a country outside Études en France:

Target levelProcedure2027-2028 calendar
First-year bachelor's at a university or architecture schoolDAP filed with the cooperation and cultural action service of the French embassy in Uganda1 October to 15 December 2026
Master'sNational Mon Master platformFebruary to 16 March 2027
Bachelor's years 2 and 3, schoolsDirect application to the institutionDepends on the institution
Art, design, fashion, music, architectureCampus Art1 October 2026 to 28 February 2027
IUT, BTS, preparatory classesParcoursupJanuary to March 2027

For the DAP, Campus France advises filing from October. Universities answer before 30 April 2027, and the applicant before 31 May 2027; no answer counts as a refusal. The comparison with other countries is in our Campus France 2027-2028 calendar.

English being an official language, many applicants aim for an English-taught programme: Campus France Nigeria counts more than 1,300, mostly at master's level, with no French test. A French-taught programme requires B2 level (DELF B2, DALF C1 or TCF with the written section). Our comparison IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo helps if the institution asks for an English test, and our article on the French test for Campus France details the French route.

The student visa from Uganda

Once admitted, apply for a long-stay study visa at the French consulate responsible for your country of residence. France-Visas shows where to submit, and the application is filled in on that website. The consulate expects proof of resources equivalent to €877.50 per month. Our guide to the student visa application lists the documents, and the one on proving your resources the accepted proofs. Only the consulate decides.

What to do for the 2027 intake

1Choose the level, then the route in the table above: it sets your dates.
2Write to the French embassy in Uganda if you aim for a first-year bachelor's, to learn how to file the DAP before 15 December 2026.
3Contact institutions directly for the other levels, and check their internal dates, often earlier than the national ones.
4Prepare the language test now.
5Look at other destinations: our directory of scholarships open to Ugandans (in French) lists programmes in France and elsewhere, with email alerts before each deadline. For those who prefer to stay on the continent, the Mastercard Foundation programme at Makerere University (in French) funds studies in Kampala itself.
6Pay no intermediary promising an admission or a visa: Campus France works with no agency, and only a consulate decides on a visa. Our article on study scholarship scams gives the warning signs.

The procedure common to English- and Portuguese-speaking countries, with the list of offices, is in our guide studying in France from English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa.

Staying connected with the diaspora

Those who have already left remain the best source of practical information. On Compatri, the Ugandan diaspora page brings together the communities settled in France city by city, and every 9 October Uganda's Independence Day gathers compatriots. The diaspora mentors answer as volunteers, and the Campus France simulator (in French) places a profile free of charge, as an indication.

Compatri is not a Campus France or government service, and does not replace the official source: only the information from Campus France, the French embassy and France-Visas is binding.

Frequently asked questions

Is there Campus France in Uganda?

Yes, there is a Campus France office in Kampala, but according to the list updated on 28 September 2026 the country does not fall under the Études en France procedure: there is no platform, no Campus France application fee and no mandatory interview. The office helps you get information and prepare your departure.

How do you study in France from Uganda?

For a first-year bachelor's, file a DAP with the cooperation and cultural action service of the French embassy, from 1 October to 15 December 2026. For a master's, apply on Mon Master, from February to 16 March 2027. For other levels, apply directly to the institution, then request a long-stay study visa.

Where do you apply for a French student visa in Uganda?

At the French consulate responsible for your country of residence. The France-Visas website shows where to submit and is used to fill in the application. The consulate expects proof of resources of €877.50 per month, and it alone decides on the visa.

Do you need an agency to study in France?

No. Campus France works with no intermediary, applications go through the embassy, Mon Master or the institutions, and only a consulate decides on a visa. An agency guaranteeing an admission or a visa for a fee should raise a red flag.
