Information checked on 2 November 2026.

As of 2 November 2026, Campus France Mauritania has not yet published its calendar for the 2027-2028 intake: its website still shows the one for the 2026 intake. One date is already certain, though, because it is national: the demande d'admission préalable for first-year bachelor's closes on 15 December 2026 on the Études en France platform, open since 1 October. This guide follows the Mauritanian route: the Nouakchott office, the documents, the French test, the 2,850 MRU fee, the interview, then the visa. For the general logic of the platform, see also our complete guide to Campus France.

Campus France Mauritania: who is concerned?

Mauritania is one of the 75 countries and territories in the Études en France procedure. Campus France Mauritania puts it simply: students who live in Mauritania use this procedure to enrol in a French higher education institution. Going through Campus France is also compulsory for a study visa, to sit a competitive exam or for an internship of more than six months.

Campus France Mauritania dates 2027-2028

What is published today fits in two columns: the national dates of the 2027 campaign, and the previous campaign's calendar, which shows how the office works.

For the 2026 intake, the office required submission, payment and interview to be done before each deadline, and processed no late file. Nothing says the outside-DAP date will be the same in 2027: do not take it for granted. Submit early and check the office's website every week. The comparison with other countries is in our Campus France calendar 2027-2028.

The Campus France Mauritania procedure in 8 steps

1Get informed: define the plan (programme, institution, diploma, funding, housing) with the Campus France website, Onisep and the office.
2Create your account on Études en France, enter your background and fill the basket, 7 choices at most.
3Pay and submit the file to Campus France Mauritania.
4Attend the academic interview; afterwards, the office forwards the file to the chosen institutions.
5Follow the answers in your account.
6Prepare your stay, with the booklet "Mon séjour en France".
7Apply for the visa.
8Leave, at least 15 days before the start of classes.

The office processes files in order of receipt, provided they are complete. A file submitted early therefore gets to the interview earlier. Enrich the form with your professional, volunteer or sports experience.

Documents to scan

Campus France Mauritania publishes a single list:

  • ID photo and identity document (passport or ID card);
  • secondary school reports (last three years, or 5th, 6th and 7th years);
  • baccalauréat pass certificate and transcript;
  • university transcripts and diplomas;
  • internship, work or training certificates, and CV;
  • scholarship certificate, for scholarship holders.

Each file must be under 300 KB. Shrink your scans before you start: it is the first cause of blockage on the platform.

French test: B2 level

French is not an official language in Mauritania, and the notice for the demande d'admission préalable does not list the country among the exempt states. For first-year bachelor's, you therefore need a TCF DAP or a diploma of at least B2 level, unless you come from a French-language secondary school on the official list. Campus France Mauritania points out that the DELF B2 is the minimum level required by institutions, and that C1 or C2 is recommended in the humanities, social sciences and law.

Tests are held in the Alliances françaises network, in Atar, Kaédi, Kiffa, Nouadhibou and Nouakchott, which offer the DELF, the DELF Junior and the TCF. DELF sessions run all year round; book early enough to have the result before submission. Exemptions are detailed in our article on the Campus France French test.

The full departure budget is in our article on Campus France fees.

The Campus France interview in Nouakchott

The interview is a conversation of about twenty minutes with an adviser. It assesses the consistency of your background and your study plan. Bring your printed invitation and your identity document, arrive a little early, speak clearly and calmly. The office advises being able to introduce yourself in a few minutes, knowing the targeted programmes well, and having thought about possible difficulties and a plan B. Our guide to the Campus France interview covers the typical questions.

Answers and final choice

Check your account often. With only negative answers, the procedure ends: our tips after a Campus France refusal help you plan what comes next. With one or more positive answers, you make a final choice on the platform, then collect from the office the signed and stamped certificate needed for the visa.

The student visa from Mauritania

According to the visa page of Campus France Mauritania, the application has three stages:

1create the application on France-Visas, with the Études en France file number (MR followed by 7 digits) at the top of the form;
2book an appointment with Africatel, the provider named by the office;
3lodge a complete file at the visa section of the French embassy in Nouakchott.

The file includes the form, the receipt, the passport copy, the baccalauréat diploma, the Études en France certificate stamped by Campus France, and proof of financial support and accommodation. The Campus France fee receipt entitles you to the half-price visa: 2,046 MRU, or €50. This office page is not dated: check the place of application on France-Visas before paying for an appointment, and write to the visa section (visas.nouakchott-amba@diplomatie.gouv.fr) if in doubt.

As for resources, the threshold is €877.50 a month for a first application, according to Service-public.fr. Our guide to proving your resources lists the accepted proofs, and the one on the student visa application covers the whole file.

Scholarships and preparing your file with Compatri

French government scholarship holders are exempt from Campus France fees. The French government scholarships through the embassies (in French) follow rules specific to each country, and all scholarships open to Mauritanians are gathered on our page scholarships for Mauritanians (in French), with email alerts before each deadline. Our article on scholarships to study in France from sub-Saharan Africa compares the programmes.

Before submitting, Compatri's Campus France simulator (in French) shows where you stand compared with admitted candidates. Its thresholds were measured on Beninese candidates: for Mauritania, they only give an order of magnitude. The Campus France coaching (in French) is a paid service, with the price given at the first exchange.

Arriving with the Mauritanian community

On Compatri, the Mauritanian diaspora page brings Mauritanian communities together city by city, in France and in Belgium, and every 28 November Mauritania's independence day gathers compatriots in the diaspora. Joining the community of your future city is free, even before the universities answer. For the first year, our article on CROUS housing for international students explains how to request a room.

Compatri is not a service of Campus France or of the State, and does not replace the official source: only the information from Campus France Mauritania and the consulate is binding.
