Key point. Ethiopia is on the official list of countries under the Études en France procedure, updated by Campus France on 28 September 2026. A student living in Ethiopia therefore applies on the Études en France platform and prepares the visa the same way. Campus France has an office in Addis Ababa, at the Alliance éthio-française. However, Campus France lists no website specific to Ethiopia, and no calendar or fee amount is published online for the country. This guide states what can be verified, then how to move forward.

The Études en France procedure from Ethiopia

The steps are those of every country under the procedure: create the account on Études en France, choose programmes, submit the file, pay the fee when the office asks, interview, institutions' answers, final choice, then the pre-visa procedure. Our complete guide to Campus France details each one.

With no Ethiopian calendar published, keep the national dates for the 2027-2028 intake in mind:

DateDeadline
1 October 2026DAP opens (first-year bachelor's and architecture)
15 December 2026DAP closes
30 April 2027Universities' answers
31 May 2027Applicant's answer; no answer counts as a refusal

An office may set an earlier date than the national one, and applications outside the DAP (bachelor's years 2 and 3, master's) often follow the office's own calendar: ask for it. The comparison with other countries is in our Campus France 2027-2028 calendar.

Studying in English or in French

The first-year DAP only covers French-taught programmes, generally at B2 level (DELF B2, DALF C1 or TCF with the written section). Many Ethiopian applicants aim instead for an English-taught master's: Campus France Nigeria counts more than 1,300 English-taught programmes in France, with no French test. The institution may however ask for an English test: our comparison IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo helps you choose, and our article on the French test for Campus France details the French route.

The student visa from Ethiopia

After admission and the pre-visa procedure on Études en France, the long-stay visa application is filled in on France-Visas, which shows where residents of Ethiopia submit it. The consulate expects proof of resources equivalent to €877.50 per month, and it alone decides. Our guide to the student visa application lists the documents, and the one on proving your resources the accepted proofs.

What to do for the 2027 intake

1Write to ethiopie@campusfrance.org now to get dates, fees and arrangements in writing.
2Create your Études en France account and start the file without waiting for mid-December.
3Prepare the language test: French B2 for a French-taught programme, English if the institution asks.
4Look for scholarships: the France Excellence Eiffel scholarship (in French) is put forward by the French institution, and our directory of scholarships open to Ethiopians (in French) also lists programmes outside France, with email alerts.
5Pay no intermediary: Campus France works with no agency, and only a consulate decides on a visa. Our article on study scholarship scams gives the warning signs.

The other English- and Portuguese-speaking countries are covered in our guide studying in France from English- and Portuguese-speaking Africa.

Staying connected with the Ethiopian diaspora

On Compatri, the Ethiopian diaspora page brings together the communities settled in France city by city, and every 28 May Ethiopia's national day gathers compatriots. The diaspora mentors answer as volunteers, and the Campus France simulator (in French) places a profile free of charge, as an indication.

Compatri is not a Campus France or government service, and does not replace the official source: only the information from Campus France, the French embassy and France-Visas is binding.
