Turkey, Morocco, Egypt and Algeria host thousands of African scholarship students every year, often from the bachelor's onwards. One difference decides everything: you apply for Türkiye Bursları yourself, online, from 10 January to 20 February, while Moroccan (AMCI), Egyptian and Algerian scholarships go through your country's ministry of higher education, which holds a quota and sets its own deadline. This guide to scholarships to study in Turkey, Morocco or Egypt explains who can apply, in which language and when, based on official calls. Each programme has a page in our scholarship directory (in French).

- a plane ticket at the start and end of studies;
- a monthly stipend of 6,500 Turkish lira for a bachelor's, 9,500 for a master's and 13,000 for a doctorate. Merit programme winners receive double.

The merit programme (Success Scholarship) has its own calendar, from October to November, and requires a 90% average, an SAT or IB score and an English test. AMCI: studying in Morocco with a scholarship from the Kingdom
The Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) awards the Kingdom of Morocco's scholarships to foreign students enrolled in Moroccan public institutions. According to the agency, about 12,500 African students from 47 countries were studying in Morocco in 2019-2020, and 85% of the African students it follows hold a scholarship. Selected students can live at the Cité universitaire internationale in Rabat, and the Centre international de langues offers French upgrading to students from non-French-speaking countries.
You do not apply to the AMCI
The application goes through your ministry of higher education, which receives a quota. A verified example, Benin for 2026-2027: a communiqué dated 3 June 2026 announced 80 scholarships, with files due by Friday 12 June 2026 at noon. Only ten days: watch your ministry's website from the spring.
Benin's conditions give a good idea of what is asked:
- secondary school graduates: previous year's baccalaureate (2025 for this call) with a Très bien, Bien or Assez bien distinction; final-year students may apply subject to passing;
- master's: licence with a Bien distinction; doctorate and medical specialisation: a degree giving access to the programme;
- not already holding a scholarship at a public university in the country, nor an AMCI scholarship;
- accepting the field assigned by the Moroccan side: you do not choose freely;
- taking out health insurance in Morocco.
One budget point matters: in Benin, the scholarship holder commits with their parents to send a top-up of 50,000 FCFA every month, with proof of transfer sent to the scholarships office. The amount of the AMCI stipend is not published on the official pages consulted. See the AMCI scholarships page (in French).
A common confusion: the AMCI does not fund a Moroccan student going to France. For that case, read our guide to scholarships to study in France from the Maghreb.
Egypt: Egyptian government scholarship and Al-Azhar scholarship
Egyptian government scholarship
Egypt offers bachelor's scholarships at its public universities, through national quotas. The process has two steps: fill in the application on the Study in Egypt portal (admission.study-in-egypt.gov.eg), then print the file and submit it to your ministry's scholarships office. A verified example: Uganda published the call on 30 June 2026 for 10 places, presented as fully funded, with a deadline of 30 July 2026. See the Egyptian government scholarship page (in French).
Al-Azhar University scholarship
Al-Azhar, in Cairo, reserves scholarships for Muslim students. For 2026-2027, Uganda offered 12 places in the pre-university year, 7 in Islamic sciences (sharia) and 11 in scientific and literary studies. The file includes an Al-Azhar secondary certificate or equivalent certified by the foreign ministry, a statement of subjects, a birth certificate showing both parents' nationality, a certificate of good conduct and a medical certificate certified by the Egyptian embassy. Teaching is in Arabic. See the Al-Azhar scholarship page (in French).
Algeria: bachelor's scholarships, mostly in science
Algeria awards bachelor's scholarships to African students through bilateral agreements. Uganda's call for 2026-2027 gives the details: 200 places, including 40 in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy, 50 in engineering, 25 in architecture and urban planning, 20 in mathematics and computing, 20 in agronomy, and the rest in earth sciences, materials science, veterinary science and life sciences.
The conditions of that call:
- under 25 at the time of application;
- secondary school results obtained no more than two years earlier, with good grades in the subjects required by the field (chemistry and biology for medicine, physics and mathematics for engineering);
- not already holding a public scholarship;
- buying the one-way ticket to Algeria yourself;
- taking one year of French at the start of studies.
Uganda's deadline was 3 September 2026. In Ghana, the joint Algeria-Ghana call set a maximum age of 23 and a deadline of 21 September 2026, and also opened two-year vocational courses, imam training and a master's in Islamic studies. Conditions therefore change from one country to another. See the Algerian government scholarships page (in French).

Not missing your ministry's call
Moroccan, Egyptian and Algerian scholarships are announced only by your ministry, often as a PDF communiqué, with a short deadline. Three habits:
To compare these destinations with others, start with our guide to fully funded scholarships for African students, then estimate what remains to pay with the cost of a year of study by country.

Frequently asked questions
When should you apply for the Türkiye Bursları scholarship?
Every year from 10 January to 20 February, for free, on the programme's online application system. Files are assessed in March and April, interviews take place from April to June and results come out in early August, for arrival in Turkey in September. The merit programme has its own window, from October to November.
What is the age limit for Türkiye Bursları?
Under 21 for a bachelor's, under 30 for a master's, under 35 for a doctorate and under 50 for the research scholarship. You also need an average of at least 70% for a bachelor's, 75% for master's and doctorate, and 90% for medicine, dentistry and pharmacy.
How do you get a scholarship to study in Morocco?
The Kingdom of Morocco's scholarships are managed by the AMCI, but the application goes through your country's ministry of higher education, which receives a quota. In Benin, 80 scholarships were open for 2026-2027, with files due by 12 June 2026 and a baccalaureate distinction required. The field of study is assigned by the Moroccan side.
Do you have to be Muslim for the Al-Azhar scholarship?
Yes. The call relayed by Uganda's ministry for 2026-2027 targets Muslim students, in the pre-university year, Islamic sciences or scientific and literary studies, with an Al-Azhar secondary certificate or equivalent. For a bachelor's in Egypt with no religious condition, look at the Egyptian government scholarship, through the Study in Egypt portal.
Does the Algerian scholarship pay for the plane ticket?
Not the outbound flight. Uganda's 2026-2027 call states that successful candidates buy a one-way ticket to Algeria themselves at the start of studies, then take a year of French. Conditions vary by country: check your ministry's call.
