In Cameroon, you do not book the French student visa as you would elsewhere: Campus France assigns you the appointment at TLScontact, once your file is finalised. Each student is entitled to one appointment only, and missing it ends the procedure. This guide follows the journey in order: the acceptance certificate, the pre-consular procedure for those admitted outside the platform, the France-Visas form (France-Visas is the official French visa website), the three TLScontact centres and the two consular districts, the documents, the resources of 877.50 € a month, the fees, the timeframes, refusals, then validating the visa on arrival. For the application stage, see our Campus France Cameroon guide; for the general version, valid in every country, read applying for a French student visa.
From the Campus France file to the visa: the steps
| Step | Where | What comes out of it |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Final choice | Études en France | Acceptance certificate |
| 2. Pre-consular procedure, if admitted outside the platform | Études en France, TLScontact, Campus France | File validated within 15 working days after the interview |
| 3. Visa form | France-Visas | Receipt and list of documents |
| 4. Appointment | Message from Campus France | TLScontact slot, to complete within 72 hours |
| 5. Submission and biometrics | TLScontact centre | File sent to the consular service |
| 6. Decision and collection | Consulate, then TLScontact | Passport with the visa |
Step 1 concerns applicants who went through the platform: after the final choice, by 31 May 2027 at the latest, download the acceptance certificate, which Campus France Cameroon describes as an essential visa document.
Step 2 concerns admissions obtained outside Études en France: BTS, preparatory class, school recruiting by competitive exam, doctorate, academic internship. You create a « Je suis accepté » (I have been accepted) file, pay 101,000 FCFA (85,000 FCFA in Campus France fees and 16,000 FCFA in TLScontact fees), submit your paper file at TLScontact, then attend an interview. Campus France Cameroon allows up to three rounds of checks and announces processing within 15 working days at most after the interview.
Step 4 is what sets Cameroon apart: no intermediary can obtain a slot, and you do not book freely. When the appointment message arrives, you have 72 hours to complete the requested information. Only request the appointment when all your documents are ready.
TLScontact in Cameroon: three centres, two districts
Since October 2023, TLScontact has received visa applications for France in Cameroon. The provider collects files and fingerprints; it decides nothing. Only the consular section of the embassy in Yaoundé and the consulate general in Douala examine applications and decide.
| TLScontact centre | Address landmark |
|---|---|
| Yaoundé | Bastos, Icon Platinium building, opposite the Le Diplomate hotel |
| Douala | Bonadiwoto, Douala Grand Mall, near the airport |
| Garoua | Le Ribadou hotel |
Where you submit depends on your residence, not on the city where your passport was issued. The consulate general in Douala covers the Littoral, West, North-West and South-West regions, plus the Océan department (South region) and the Nyong-et-Kellé department (Centre region). The rest of the country falls under the consular section in Yaoundé; the Garoua centre serves applicants from the North. Check opening hours on France-Visas before travelling: they vary from centre to centre.

Applicants under 18 on 31 December of the year follow a specific procedure. Order your passport early: Campus France Cameroon stresses the issuing delays, which can block everything in July. Resources: 877.50 € a month
Since 1 August 2026, the minimum to show for a student visa is 877.50 € a month, or 10,530 € for twelve months. At the fixed rate of 655.957 FCFA to the euro, that is about 575,600 FCFA a month and 6,907,000 FCFA a year. The detail of the threshold and how it is calculated is in our article on the minimum resources for a student visa.
On 3 September 2026, the French embassy in Cameroon clarified how it examines applications. Each file receives an individual examination, « with attention paid to the financial sustainability of the student's project ». However, the embassy adds no conditions to the regulations: in particular, it requires neither proof that a full year's tuition has been paid nor that the sum be available in a bank account. A press release of 10 July 2026 had suggested otherwise; the embassy now declares it « null and void » on that point.
In practice, show credible, regular resources: a scholarship certificate, sponsorship by a guarantor with proven income, consistent bank statements, a standing transfer. A large deposit just before the application raises more doubts than it settles. Good practice is gathered in proving your resources for a student visa.
Student visa fees and timeframes from Cameroon
| Item | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Long-stay visa, Études en France procedure country | 50 €, paid in FCFA | France-Visas |
| TLScontact service fee | Shown when booking | TLScontact |
| Campus France fees (already paid) | 85,000 FCFA + 16,000 FCFA | Campus France Cameroon |
| VLS-TS validation in France | 100 € | service-public.fr |
The TLScontact service fee does not appear on the official pages we were able to consult: it is shown at payment. Be wary of figures circulating without a source.
On timeframes, France-Visas asks you to allow one month between submitting a long-stay application and your departure date, and the embassy points out that an application can be submitted up to six months before departure. Summer is the busiest period: in its September 2026 press release, the embassy mentions « very strong demand » and efforts with TLScontact to open as many slots as possible. The full calendar, from application to visa, is in our Campus France Cameroon 2027 calendar.
Visa refusal: what blocks and how to respond
A pre-registration does not guarantee a visa: Campus France Cameroon spells it out. The consular service alone decides and looks mainly at four points: sufficient and credible resources, consistency between your background and the chosen programme, accommodation, and the authenticity of documents. Neither Campus France nor any other body can intervene in the decision.
If you are refused, read the grounds first. An appeal goes first to the Commission de recours contre les décisions de refus de visa (the visa refusal appeals board) in Nantes, within 30 days, then, if needed, to the administrative court in Nantes. The procedure, with the most common grounds, is in our article on student visa refusal. Resubmitting the same file unchanged usually leads to the same result.
On arrival: validate the VLS-TS
The long-stay visa serving as a residence permit (VLS-TS) must be validated online within three months of your arrival in France, on the administration's website, with a tax of 100 €. Without this validation, you cannot leave France and come back on that visa, and your stay becomes irregular after three months. Every step is set out in validating your VLS-TS.
Preparing to leave with those who went through TLScontact
A document list says what is needed; those who submitted in Douala or Yaoundé last year know how the reception works, how long the decision took and which documents were examined closely. On Compatri, the Cameroonian community of your future city brings together students and families already settled there: find it from the page Cameroonians in France and join before you leave. The « Étudiants africains » (African students) group also gathers students from several cities who talk about housing, scholarships and mutual help.
Compatri is not a service of Campus France or the state, and does not replace the official source: only France-Visas and the French consular services in Cameroon are binding on you.

Frequently asked questions
Where do you apply for a French student visa in Cameroon?
At a TLScontact centre, in Yaoundé, Douala or Garoua, on an appointment assigned by Campus France. The centre depends on where you live: the consulate general in Douala covers the Littoral, West, North-West and South-West regions and the Océan and Nyong-et-Kellé departments; the rest of the country falls under Yaoundé.
How much does the French student visa cost in Cameroon?
The long-stay visa costs 50 € for students who went through the Études en France procedure, paid in FCFA, plus the TLScontact service fee shown when booking. Before that, the Campus France procedure costs 101,000 FCFA. On arrival, VLS-TS validation costs 100 €.
How much money must you show for a French student visa from Cameroon?
At least 877.50 € a month for applications submitted since 1 August 2026, or 10,530 € for twelve months, about 575,600 FCFA a month at the fixed rate. The embassy states that it requires neither full payment of a year's tuition nor the sum to be available in a bank account, but it examines the financial sustainability of the project.
How long does it take to get a French student visa from Cameroon?
France-Visas asks you to allow one month between submitting a long-stay application and departure, and an application can be submitted up to six months ahead. No timeframe is guaranteed, and demand peaks in summer. For a September start, aim to submit in June or July.
Can you get a new TLScontact appointment in Cameroon after missing one?
No, according to Campus France Cameroon: each student is entitled to one visa appointment, and a missed appointment ends the procedure. An incomplete file on submission day does not entitle you to a new appointment either. So only request the slot once all your documents are ready.
