For a student living in Côte d'Ivoire, the French student visa is filed in one place only: the VFS Global centre in Abidjan, the service provider of the French Consulate General. That door opens only once the Campus France procedure is finished, interview done and fee paid. This guide follows the journey in order: the documents to download from your Études en France account, the France-Visas form, the VFS Global appointment, the documents, the funds of 877.50 euros a month, fees, timelines, refusals, then validating the visa on arrival. For the application stage beforehand, see our Campus France Côte d'Ivoire guide; for the general version, valid in every country, read applying for a French student visa.

Step 1 has two entry points. If you applied through Campus France, it ends with your final choice and, for pupils in their final year, with passing the baccalauréat. If you were admitted directly to a private school, you go through the « Je suis accepté » (I have been accepted) procedure: file, payment, interview. In both cases, print from your account the payment receipt, which entitles you to the reduced visa rate, and the acceptance certificate, under « Je finalise ma procédure ».

Step 2 happens on France-Visas, and nowhere else. Campus France Côte d'Ivoire insists: the form is free, you can fill it in from home, and no intermediary is authorised to put your file together. Paid form-filling services offered informally guarantee nothing. The campaign calendar is in our Campus France Côte d'Ivoire calendar 2027.

One centre for the whole country: whether you live in Bouaké, Korhogo or San Pedro, you file in Abidjan. Appointments are booked only on the VFS Global website, with the service fee prepaid online. VFS Global has been reminding applicants since May 2026: scanning your documents in France-Visas as requested makes the submission smoother.

On the day, bring the printed confirmation letter, the file sorted in the order of the document list, and the means to pay the visa fee in cash. Only applicants may enter; a companion must be authorised in advance by email. The rules on electronic devices differ between France-Visas and VFS Global: if in doubt, come without a laptop or tablet. Your ten fingerprints and photo are taken, unless you obtained a biometric Schengen visa less than 59 months ago. If a document is missing, you can decide not to file, without paying the visa fee, and come back with a new appointment; or file anyway by signing a waiver listing what is missing.

Documents for the French student visa from Côte d'Ivoire

The France-Visas assistant gives the exact list for your situation. Campus France Côte d'Ivoire generally lists:

1an ID photo;
2a passport issued less than ten years ago, with at least two blank pages, valid at least three months after the requested visa expires; scan every page bearing visas, stamps or entries;
3if you are not Ivorian, proof of legal residence in Côte d'Ivoire;
4the pre-registration certificate generated by Études en France, with your ID number;
5your most recent diploma;
6proof of accommodation for the first three months: hotel booking, host's certificate or explanatory letter;
7proof of funds (see below);
8the Campus France receipt and the acceptance certificate.

Consular services check every document. Campus France Côte d'Ivoire repeats it: a forged transcript, diploma or enrolment leads to a visa refusal and exclusion from any Campus France procedure.

Funds: 877.50 euros a month

Since 1 August 2026, the minimum to prove for a student visa is 877.50 euros a month, or 10,530 euros for twelve months. At the fixed rate of 655.957 FCFA per euro, that is about 575,600 FCFA a month and 6.9 million FCFA a year. Careful: the Campus France Côte d'Ivoire visa page still shows the old threshold of 615 euros. Calculate on 877.50 euros and check the exact amount stated by France-Visas.

Three kinds of proof appear on the Campus France Côte d'Ivoire page:

  • a scholarship certificate;
  • a bank certificate of deposit in a French bank account;
  • a sponsorship certificate from a guarantor, who must prove sufficient, reliable and regular income, with a copy of their ID.

A guarantor with irregular income, statements with no history or a last-minute transfer weaken the file. Good practice for this part is in proving your funds for the student visa.

The service fee is paid by Orange Money, MTN Mobile Money, Moov Money or bank card when booking; without this payment, the appointment is not confirmed. Its FCFA amount follows a rate set by the French authorities and may therefore move slightly.

On timelines, VFS Global states an indicative processing time of 15 days for Ivorian nationals once the file is submitted. The French embassy points out that you can file up to six months before departure, and that timelines lengthen depending on the period. The official Campus France Côte d'Ivoire calendar advises booking from June. You are notified by email, and by text if you asked for it, when your passport is back at the centre; a relative can collect it with a certified power of attorney and your receipt.

Visa refusal: what blocks it and how to respond

The French Consulate General in Abidjan alone decides. What it examines is well known: sufficient and credible funds, consistency between your background and the programme, accommodation, authenticity of documents. A file calculated on the old 615-euro threshold starts with an obvious handicap, as does a basket of programmes unrelated to your previous studies.

If refused, you can appeal to the Commission de recours contre les décisions de refus de visa (the visa refusal appeals board) within 30 days, a compulsory step before any appeal to the administrative court of Nantes. The details, and what to fix before reapplying, are in what to do after a student visa refusal. Compatri does not give legal advice.

On arrival: validating the VLS-TS

For a programme of more than three months and up to twelve months, the visa issued is a VLS-TS marked « étudiant », a long-stay visa that serves as a residence permit. You must validate it online on the ANEF website (the digital portal for foreign nationals) within three months of arrival, with your arrival date, your address in France and a means of paying the tax. This permit also allows you to work 964 hours a year. The step-by-step process is in validating your VLS-TS.

Preparing departure with those who went through VFS Global

Official lists do not say how many days it took this summer to get a slot in Abidjan, or which document was requested at the counter. Ivorian students settled in your future city know. On Compatri, you can join their community even before filing your visa, as explained in joining your community before leaving, from the page Ivorian diaspora in France, and find in the « Étudiants africains » (African students) group those leaving the same year.

Compatri is not a service of Campus France, the consulate or the state, and does not replace the official source; Compatri is not a visa agency either.
