People from Rwanda around the world meet here, country by country and city by city. Settled, about to leave or simply connected: here is where to find your people.
According to the United Nations, from largest to smallest.
According to the United Nations, 532,000 people from Rwanda live abroad.
However, the figure counts migrants, not their children born abroad. The real diaspora is therefore larger.
286,000 people from Rwanda live in the DR Congo, 86,000 Burundi, and 79,100 Uganda.
Together, these three countries therefore account for about 85% of the diaspora.
Each country has its own page, with the cities, communities and meetups there.
By continent, the diaspora counts 504,000 people in Africa, 15,400 Europe, and 9,320 the Americas.
For each continent, a page also gathers the countries and cities where it lives.
Other countries in Africa also have their diaspora on Compatri: Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, South Sudan, and DR Congo. Each page gathers its countries of residence, its cities and its national day.
Compatri brings diasporas together where they live. First, you choose the community of your city. Then you discover what its members organise: meals, parties, afterworks or mutual aid. Finally, you message compatriots who share your interests.
You can also host your own meetup: a meal, an outing or a party. It then appears to members of your city, and you follow sign-ups from your account.
Your exact location never appears: other members only see an approximate area. In addition, joining a community and attending events costs nothing.
Every July 1, the national day brings the Rwanda diaspora together. Wherever the diaspora lives, communities also organise concerts, meals and gatherings.
According to the UN, about 532,000 people from Rwanda live abroad. Their children born abroad do not count in this figure.
According to the UN, most of them live in the DR Congo, Burundi, Uganda, Republic of the Congo, and Belgium.
Choose your country of residence, then your city. Next, join the local community, or start it if it is still missing.
Rwanda Independence Day falls on July 1. Around the world, the diaspora also celebrates it.
No. Joining your community, discovering nearby members and attending events stays free. The Starter and Advanced plans only add features to go further.
